Welcome To Horsforth Choral Society

Horsforth Choral Society is an enthusiastic and friendly mixed-voice choir of around 60 singers based in Horsforth, Leeds bringing classical choral music to our community. Founded in 1928, we are proud to be one of the few non-auditioning choral societies in our region and we offer a warm welcome to everyone who wants to sing with us.

We usually perform four concerts a year:

  • Autumn concert: one or more classical choral pieces.
  • Christmas concert: popular ‘Carols and Brass’ concert with brass ensemble.
  • Spring concert: one or more classical choral pieces
  • Summer concert: usually a more informal event. At our 2025 Summer concert we performed folk songs and madrigals.

We meet to rehearse on Mondays in school term times at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre of St Margaret’s Church, Horsforth.

We are passionately committed to inspiring and enlightening audiences with both traditional and less familiar repertoire.

Our News and Concerts

Spring concert

Our next concert will be on Friday 20th March 2026 at 7:30pm at Grove Methodist Church, Horsforth. The music will include Handel’s Foundling Hospital Anthem and Haydn’s Little Organ Mass.

November and Christmas concerts

Our popular Christmas ‘Carols and Brass’ concert took place on Tuesday 9th December in St Margaret’s Church, Horsforth, with old friends YEP Brass. We were delighted to welcome a full house to enjoy the choir and the brass ensemble pieces, and join with us in singing some favourite carols. The event was reviewed by West Leeds Dispatch.

Our November 2025 concert took place on Friday 14th November in St Margaret’s Church, Horsforth. Despite the stormy weather it was a wonderful evening. We performed Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. The soloists were: Clare Brooke, Charlotte Woodhead, Stephen Muir and James Gaughan. Valerie Barr on accordion played the harmonium part.

Details of sponsors for these and previous concerts are on our Current and Previous Concert Sponsors page.
